We have been working with Harewood Estate, near Leeds, for many years - access to world-class venison on our doorstep is a considerable accolade and greatly appreciated by our chef community.
There is thought to have been a deer park at Harewood since Medieval times. It was re-established in the 1990s with the introduction of both Red (Cervus elaphus) and Fallow (Damadama) deer into the ancient landscapes of the North Park, overlooking the Wharfe Valley of West Yorkshire. Here they have access to 125 acres of parkland and 75 acres of woodland, making them wild herds. They are managed in partnership with the British Deer Society, who also lead annual Deer Park Safari walks on the estate.
Born and reared at Harewood, animals are all low-intensity farmed using traditional methods. They naturally graze year-round on grasses, herbs and flowers found in wildlife-friendly grasslands, particularly enjoying the autumn acorns from the veteran parkland oak trees.
This Farm Assured conservation grazing approach means there’s no growth hormones, minimal medical intervention, and healthier, leaner, more tender meat packed full of flavour.
